Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14

As with the start of any new year, we tend to focus on New Year’s resolutions. What are the goals we want to set for the year ahead? What will it take to get there?

As writers, do we even have resolutions? The inspiration for today’s devotional comes from Paul’s statement to the Philippians about pressing on toward the goal.

In each one of our hearts, God has placed thoughts, inspiration, and wisdom. His intent is for us to share what He’s teaching us and what we’ve learned. But if we don’t take the time to write down what He’s sharing with us, it may be lost forever. As time passes and we grow older, memories of days gone by fade and lose their meaning.

So take heed to what He’s teaching you today. Make a record of it. Know that the circumstances and situations that He brings you to are not always just for your benefit. Many times the lives of others are impacted by what they witness in our own lives.

The struggles you are facing, the joys that you’re experiencing… They are no different than what we read in the Bible. Someone had to heed God’s calling and sit down and write the book of Job. Nehemiah shared what he was taught. David, Paul, Moses, and many others reflected on the lives they’d lived, the experiences that God had brought them to and through, and then chose to make a record of it in order to glorify His name.

So what goal are you pressing on toward? Of course, we all have the same one ultimately. We want to pursue the goal of joining Christ in Heaven. But our paths to getting there are as unique and varied as our lives are.

Has God brought you through an experience and given you a lesson to share? Or has He placed an idea in your heart that you need to wrestle with to understand its full meaning?

God has given us our own unique stories to tell. What message has He given you to write? Take time to thank him today for the calling that He’s given you. The lessons that He can teach through the story of your life are like none other.
